An Introduction to an Outward Mindset

03. Diagnosing the Drama

The people we interact with can sense how we see them. When we see and treat others as objects, we invite them to resist us. Ironically, we end up provoking their mistreatment of us in order to justify our mistreatment of them. We call this destructive pattern “collusion.” The personal and organizational consequences and costs of collusion are immense.

Collusion

Collusions perpetuate our conflicts and ironically create the very problems we complain about.

As you work through this module, consider:
  • Why did the way Louise saw her manager invite him to do more of the very behaviors that frustrated her?
  • How did discovering that she was in a collusion “free her” of the collusion, even though her manager didn’t change?
